~ SERVICE GUIDELINES ~
ALL SERVICE MEMBERS GUIDELINES:
- We are the face of the 319. Please act and dress appropriately while in service on the meeting.
- Hosts, chairs and verification co-hosts should be seated upright while in service.
- We ask that all service members keep their cameras on while in service on the 319.
- Steering Committee members are co-hosted upon request, and when in active service should keep their cameras on.
HOST GUIDELINES:
- Please arrive AT LEAST 10 (preferably 15) minutes prior to the start time of your hour so you can assume the host position. If the current host is chairing the next hour, please co-host them immediately so they can take a break.
- If its a new chair coming in, please co-host them as soon as they arrive enter the room.
- Check the service schedule to determine who the next hours chair will be.
- Host runs the room for 1 hour using a computer or laptop.
- Host first asks current co-hosts if they can remain in service for the next hour and then recruits and assigns co-hosts as needed. (1 Assigned admit person, 1 Verifier, 1 Greeter, 1 Poster, 1 Renamer.)
- All co-hosts cover security and assist with admitting.
- If there are are lack of co-hosts positions can be combined (i.e. Admit/Greeter, Verifier, Poster/Renamer.)
- After all five co-host positions are filled, back-up positions can be assigned. Please identify them as “Back-up/Position before their name
- i.e. Back-up/Admit – Bill Wilson
- Please verify co-hosts by video, password AND checking the co-host list before co-hosting. (Please note the host should ensure each co-host has their service position BEFORE their name.)
- With the exception of Committee members, “Support,” “Helper,” or other general service terms are not proper titles. The host clarifies which role the co-host is being of service in. This helps determine which positions are still needed.
- Any co-hosts who do not respond to check-in or DM and who do not have their video on should have their co-host permissions removed. Co-host permissions should not be removed from committee members.
- Host posts The Top of Hour Post, Verifications, and 7th Tradition posts at the start of the meeting.
- Host should pay close attention to direct messages (DMs) in Chat. Please use DMs to communicate with the Chair and other Co-hosts.
- It is very disruptive when the host interrupts the chairperson unless asked to step in by the Chair.
- Host should always have video on and monitor chat.
- If you need to leave your computer for any reason, find a co-host to transfer host to while you are away from the screen. This prevents problems if something prevents you from returning promptly.
- Disruptive participants (not trolls) should be removed when the host and at least one co-host agree. Make sure you send an email to 319spiritualteam@gmail.com including the name, reason and service members who agreed to removal.
- Unsure of the difference? Click for further information – Trolls vs Disruptive Members.
- All co-hosts should be observant in watching the room and chat to cover security and act as admit backup.
- Unless the chair asks for a list of hands please allow the order in which they (the chair) use. Zoom doesn’t always show the correct order depending on the device used.
- Message in public chat may be appropriate if participants are commenting on share order.
- Most times, if someone has been on the meeting for a minimum of 15 minutes the hands should be correct.
CHAIR GUIDELINES:
- If you are chairing but did not host the previous hour, if you can, please arrive 20-30 minutes early to ensure the hands will be in the correct order.
- Chair leads the meeting using a computer, laptop or mobile device.
- Chair may check with the Host if the order of hands is correct if they arrived late or if they feel their order is incorrect.
- Take a minute to write an introduction that is short, sweet, and to the point.
- Opens the meeting and reads the Top of The Hour post. Please choose a topic for the hour about the solution to our alcoholism, or use Experience, Strength & Hope (ESH). Please be brief so that the meeting can be opened for shares by 10 minutes after the start of the hour.
- Chairs set the tone for the meeting, and so should be mindful to have topics focused on alcoholism and recovery from alcoholism. Participants are welcome to share where they are in their sober journey, but if the meeting gets off track, please gently bring it back to our primary purpose to stay sober and help other alcoholics achieve sobriety.
- Please go in order of hands.
- Burning desires are for those that are in distress and may be called upon more quickly.
- If there is a treatment center present, you can move them up in the order if they will not get to share within your hour, as they often only stay on for an hour at a time.
- Chair should pay close attention to the DMs in Chat. Please use this to communicate with one another.
- Chair is asked to keep comments brief between shares and mute during shares to minimize background noise.
- Chair monitors members share time to approximately 5 minutes with discretion. Using a timer is helpful.
- There is an app in Zoom which displays a countdown timer on your square, if you’d like to use it.
- Intoxicated participants are limited to a maximum of one 2-minute shares per hour with the Chair’s discretion to interrupt sooner if needed.
- The Chair should gauge time remaining at the end of the meeting to ensure that it does not run over into the next hour, including any final prayer, reading or acknowledgements of host/co-hosts.
CO-HOST GUIDELINES:
- Co-Hosts continually monitor the chat and communicate via direct message ONLY, using computer or laptop.
- Unmuting is disruptive to the meeting and disturbing to the participants.
- If the chair is not frozen, or has been disconnected from the meeting, ALWAYS DM the host.
- The HOST in last case scenario should be the only person to unmute under extreme circumstances
- i.e. Chair has completely frozen or dropped off the meeting
- The HOST in last case scenario should be the only person to unmute under extreme circumstances

TOP OF THE HOUR POST:
Welcome to the 319 OPEN Alcoholics Anonymous Group! We follow the 12 Traditions and Primary Purpose of A.A, with a new meeting every hour 24/7. We are on a public forum; we advise that everyone practice caution when sharing personal information (It is suggested that you use direct message). We do not tolerate inappropriate behavior from anyone in the room, please be mindful of your actions and those of others. Disruptive members will be removed immediately. If you receive disturbing or unwelcome DMs, please send a DM to the host or a co-host. Please share on the Chair’s topic, any recovery related literature or subject, or let us know where you are in your sober journey.
We want to give everyone who wishes to share the opportunity to do so. Therefore, we ask you to limit shares to once per meeting (hour), unless the chair asks for more hands. If you’re new to A.A., just coming back or new to the 319, we would love to hear from you! Shout out in the chat or jump in and say “hey!”. Welcome to the 319 Family!
Blue Card/AA PREAMBLE
We follow the A.A. Blue Card – This is an open meeting of Alcoholics Anonymous. We are glad you are all here — especially newcomers. In keeping with our singleness of purpose and our Third Tradition which states that “The only requirement for A.A. membership is a desire to stop drinking,” we ask that all who participate confine their discussion to their problems with alcohol.
A.A. Preamble –
Alcoholics Anonymous is a fellowship of people who share their experience, strength, and hope with each other that they may solve their common problem and help others to recover from alcoholism. The only requirement for membership is a desire to stop drinking. There are no dues or fees for A.A. membership; we are self-supporting through our own contributions. A.A. is not allied with any sect, denomination, politics, organization, or institution; does not wish to engage in any controversy; neither endorses nor opposes any causes. Our primary purpose is to stay sober and help other alcoholics to achieve sobriety.
CONTRIBUTING TO A.A.’s 7th TRADITION:
CONTRIBUTING TO A.A.’s 7th TRADITION:
“Every A.A. group ought to be fully self-supporting, declining outside contributions.”
- We appreciate all the donations that have been sent in however we have met our limit on accepted donations for the remainder of the year.
- In an effort to assist our A.A. fellows who are in need of support as per Group Conscience, we’ve added a link below to the contribution link for A.A. Maui if you would like to donate. Please visit our 7th Tradition page on our website –
